IN light of the 20th anniversary of Loughall (on Tuesday past), Strabane Ógra Shinn Féin has unveiled a mural in the town Centre.
Speaking at the unveiling spokesperson for Strabane OSF John McDermott commented, "This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Loughgall ambush. This ambush epitomises the shoot to kill policy that was in place at this time. Although the SAS had the town, and the barracks under surveillance, the volunteers were able to enter the town with no problems. The SAS had set the trap and they lay in wait.
"We erected this mural to commemorate the lives of these brave volunteers. The desire for Irish freedom was prominent in these men's lives, and in an attempt to rid their country of injustices they took the fight to the British."
