Jobs fair a success

THERE was a hive of activity in Derry recently as hundreds of jobseekers made their way to the Millennium Forum for a major Jobs Fair.

The Jobs Fair was organised by the Jobs and Benefits Offices in Foyle, Lisnagelvin , Limavady and the Strabane JobCentre. 26 employers, including Perfectseal Ltd, PSNI, AXA Insurance and Derry City Council were present on the day to advertise job vacancies and chat to jobseekers about the work of the company.

Damien McAdams, District Manager, said: "The success of the event was due to the hard work of all staff involved in the organisation of the day. Add to this the fact that there was such a wide range of employers from across the spectrum who were willing to talk to jobseekers and offer them the opportunity to secure real employment means it is little wonder that the success of the Jobs Fair exceeded all expectations."

A staggering total of 1463 application forms were issued during the the day and interviews are still taking place. Feedback from both jobseekers and employers has been extremely positive.

Creggan Country Park have, to date, employed three people as a direct result of the Jobs Fair, whilst many other employers are highly confident that they too will fill vacancies from the Jobs Fair due to the high calibre of applicants who attended on the day.
