It is a true saying that every town in Ireland has a Church, a pub and a GAA club. And we in Newtownstewart have a vibrant club with great support, right through to generous sponsorship which was borne out at our centenary gala night held recently in the Glenavon Hotel, Cookstown.
It is a great achievement to celebrate 100 years of Gaelic games in your club. In one way you honour the men of vision who built up the club from humble beginnings and yet celebrate with the men and women of today who have made our club and grounds one of the best in Tyrone.
All of this and our enjoyable gala night could not have come to fruition without the dedication and hard work of all associated with the club. But most of all a huge thank you to the centenary committee for organising our centenary celebrations all year which culminated in our enjoyable gala night. Thanks also to all the sponsors who supported our gala night, donated prizes and those who supplied the gifts for everyone present on the night which was very much appreciated and made the night a memorable one.
As the President Nicky Brennan said in his speech on the night, "The GAA is the largest sporting organisation in Ireland, due mainly to the small grass root clubs like An Baile Nua who have great parish support."
We in An Baile Nua can be proud that we are doing our part in enhancing Gaelic games in Newtownstewart as we move our club forward with renewed hope for the future.
Appreciative Gael
