Last minute heartbreak against South Coast Bayern

County Tyrone............................................ 0

South Coast Bayern ....................................1

TYRONE suffered last minute heartbreak on day two as the American side South Coast Bayern stole all three points with a late, late winner.

Played at the expansive Riada Stadium pitch at Ballymoney, Tyrone knew they were going to have to be at their best if they were to get anything from the game. And for large parts of the game, they more than matched their American opponents.

Tyrone packed the midfield and the central trio of Stuart Glasgow, Johnny Edgar and Adam Buchannan fought hard for every ball and every tackle, giving Bayern little time on the ball to create anything.

Scott Sproule had the first meaningful chance of the game but saw his ambitious 30-yard drive drift just over the bar, while Aaron Brennan and Caolan McAleer an the wings were seeing lots of play and their direct running and workrate was keeping the Bayern defence on their toes.

At the other end, the defensive quartet of McCammon, Lowry, Collins and Gervin were keeping things tight and in all honesty, keeper Ruairi McElroy had very little to do in the first half.

Tyrone had further long-range efforts from Glasgow and Edgar, while Brennan saw a 30-yard free kick sail over the bar.

And just before half-time, Tyrone got a helping hand from Bayern when a Tyrone corner was almost turned into his own net by a Bayern defender.

In the opening seconds of the second half, keeper McElroy had to be at his best to deny Bayern when Reed McKenna was played through and on 55 minutes, it took a combination of McCammon and Buchannan to prevent Bayern getting their shot away – the two defenders putting in brave tackles.

The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw but the last few minutes were to see plenty of action. McElroy again smothered a point-blank shot and quickly launched a counter attack through Stefan Lavery, who cut into the box and shot narrowly wide from the left, while seconds later, Lavery and Paul Stretton got in each other's way and failed to make the most of a Shannon Crooks cross.

And then came that Bayern winner. With literally seconds left to play, a cross from the Bayern left found its way onto the head of Hector Lopez – who knew little about it as the ball looped over McElroy into the net.

A cruel loss for Tyrone but they can raise their heads high in the knowledge that on another day this result could have been much, much different.

Tyrone

McElroy, McCammon, Lowry, Gervin, Collins, Buchannan, Glasgow, Edgar, Wallace, Brennan, Sproule. Subs used: Crooks, Stretton, Lavery, McAleer
