Winter driving G District
Police in G District, which incorporates Foyle, Limavady, Magherafelt, and Strabane are taking this opportunity to urge road users to check their vehicle lights, brakes and tyres to ensure they meet the required standard for winter driving.
Constable Stuart Crutchley Road Safety Education Officer for the District said: "Now that we are into the winter weather it is important that road users prepare now for the months ahead with both their own safety and that of the wider public in mind.
"The importance of adequate and appropriate lighting cannot be overemphasised. The unnecessary use of fog lights for general driving can cause a serious hazard to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. It may also incur a fixed penalty notice.
"Motorists are also advised to check that their headlights are operating properly and replace any dim or broken bulbs immediately.
"Some garages now provide free checks on lights and tyres and further advice on winter driving can be obtained by contacting your local police station."
