Critically acclaimed photographer Charlie McCusker from Strabane is in the frame as he has got through to the final of the prestigious Professional Photography Association for Northern Ireland (PPANI) Awards.

His photograph of hair model Rachel Stewart will be judged by leading Irish and UK Photographers at a star-studded event next week, which is sponsored by the Brian McEniff Group of Hotels.

Should her photograph, which has been nominated in the 'Fashion' category, be chosen, she will be treated to a luxury weekend in one of the Brian McEniff hotels in Donegal, Sligo, Westport or Dublin and the photographer Charlie McCusker will be presented with a specially commissioned trophy from Ciaran Murray jewellers in Belfast.

The PPANI body was formed in 1966 for full time professional photographers who wished to keep in touch with each other's trade, trends, new methods and techniques to improve the standard of their work and ultimately benefit the public.

President of the PPANI Paul Davis commented, "It gives me great pleasure to announce another cracking entry, for this, the second annual year of PPANI's structured awards programme. Whilst giving our members the chance of showcasing their best images, the competition is also aimed at raising public awareness.

"At present the digital camera has introduced a batch of 'newcomers' to the photographic world, taking a picture now needs very little expertise, although composing and lighting a moment to last forever needs to be left to an expert."

Charlie is full of praise for the PPANI body.

He said, "I am delighted to be a new member of the PPANI. It's very beneficial to be part of a large group of professionals with very high standards.

"I especially appreciate getting together with like-minded photographers to exchange ideas and be on the pulse with new and emerging trends in photography. It's a wonderful network to be part of."
