A STRABANE woman has hit out at those behind an arson attack on her jeep, set ablaze on Tuesday night.
Mena McColgan, who lives at Lisnafin Park, had just gone to bed when she heard what she thought was smashing glass.
It turned out that the family's Rav 4 jeep had been set alight, possibly by a petrol bomb.
Mena says, "I had just put my 11 year old daughter to bed and got into bed myself with a book. I heard a clinking noise and thought it sounded like a car window being broken.
"Before I even got to the bedroom window I could see the flames but there was no-one about outside at all. I called the fire brigade immediately."
Mena says she thought the fire would spread to the oil tank and the row of houses she lives in as the jeep was parked to the front of the house.
"There was another car right next to it but fortunately I think there was no damage caused to that car.
"There's not much left of the jeep, the inside of it is completely melted and there's glass everywhere. There are two wheels left undamaged, that's it.
As to those behind the attack Mena says, "Whoever was responsible for this attack had no thought for anyone. They are just terrorising children. My 11 year old daughter was in hysterics.
"When I tried to take her out of the house to her granny's she didn't want to go out the front door she was so petrified. She didn't sleep at all last night," added Mena.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said it is investigating a suspicious car fire in the Lisnafin Park area during the early hours of Wednesday (5th).
They have asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact police in Strabane on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
