Sinn Fein has welcomed confirmation from DRD Roads Service that it is to carry out remedial work on a section of the road surface at Bridge Street to alleviate the problem of water accumulating alongside the footpath.
Councillor Brian McMahon said, "During extended periods of rain, a pool of water accumulates on the road beside this footpath with the result that commercial and residential premises and indeed pedestrians are often getting sprayed with stagnant water when cars drive past.
"Following representations from Sinn Fein, engineers visited the area during heavy rain last week to ascertain the source of the problem.
Road's Service has now undertaken to carry out remedial work to resolve the problem which will involve re-aligning and resurfacing the road to ensure the efficient drainage of rain water" added the councillor.
