ANOTHER successful year for St Joseph's Brass Band's Music for Youth" project culminated recently with a residential weekend at the Gartan Outdoor Educational centre in Donegal.
Besides the many busy brass workshops led by Gary Cutin, Principal Euphonium with the Wingates Band and Stephen Wilkinson, Principal Cornet with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, the young musicians were kept busy with raft-racing, canoeing and many other activities. The very successful weekend closed with the young musicians performing a concert for family, friends and invited guests in the Gartan Heritage Centre.
St Joseph's spokesperson Paddy McGranaghan said: "This year, 47 youngsters obtained grades in brass, speech and drama, piano, percussion and the theory of music. Grades one to eight were achieved and congratulations to all the students on their hard work and success.
"The new band year has just started and while registrations show most disciplines to be filled, there are a few places left in percussion. Anyone interested in joining the percussion classes or finding out about the Music for Youth project, should contact project coordinator, Anne-Marie Simpson on 07969214040.
