GARDAI were this week investigating the death of a Strabane man, who died following a serious assault in Dublin.
The body of Francis McGrinder (41), originally from Drumrallagh Estate, was discovered lying on the city's Kevin Street on May 8.
He was rushed to the nearby St James Hospital suffering from what is believed to be a brain haemorrhage, where he died four days later.
Mr McGrinder left Strabane around 15 years ago and it is understood he had been living in homeless shelters in Dublin for most of the time since.
A Gardai spokesperson said yesterday (Wednesday) that they were aware that an altercation had taken place between two men on Kevin Street on May 8.
A day after Mr McGrinder's death in St James, a man was arrested in connection with the incident.
"We arrested a man on May 13 and he is currently before the courts on a charge of assault," the Garda added.
It is understood a second Post Mortem was to be carried out on Mr McGrinder's remains yesterday (Wednesday).
Speaking earlier this week, Mr McGrinder's sister Anne Jefferson said that she was saddened to hear of her brother's death. "We kept in regular contact with Francis although he hasn't been back to Strabane for many years.
"My mum is sick at the moment, so we were worried about how she would take the news, but she isn't too bad.
"It's a sad time for the McGrinder family, particularly when we don't know what is going on down in Dublin," she said. Once a cause of death is determined, the late Mr McGrinder will be laid to rest in Strabane, the family have confirmed.
