Strabane Sigersons...0-13
Beragh Red Knights.....0-6
Strabane Sigersons travelled to play Beragh Red Knights last Sunday and recorded another fine win with seven points the difference between the sides in a game that Strabane dominated from start to finish and never looked in any danger of losing.
This was another good win for Strabane although they know that they can play a lot better than on this occasion and will need to do so in the coming weeks with a few very difficult encounters ahead.
Once again Warner Mullen lead the scoring for Strabane with five points and even he will admit that he could have doubled his tally such was the way the game went with Strabane appearing to take the foot of the pedal when they raced into a commanding lead.
By halftime, Strabane led 0-8 to 0-2 with Stephen Stewart opening the scoring with a point from play and similar strikes added by Chris Devine and Warner Mullen.
Beragh responded with a point from play before Strabane added another score from a Warner Mullen free kick. The home side reduced the lead to two points when they converted from a free kick but they failed to score again in the first half as Strabane went on to add a further four points, Chris Devine hit two good scores from play whilst Warner Mullen also hit a brace, one from a free kick and one from a forty-five metre kick to leave Strabane going in at the break with a comfortable six point cushion.
Halftime score: Strabane 0-8, Beragh 0-2.
Both sides wasted chances at the start of the second half before Strabane opened with a point from a Warner Mullen free kick, John-Paul Gallagher also added a point from a dead ball situation with John McLaughlin sending over two fine scores from play to send Strabane into a very commanding ten point lead.
Beragh hit back with a point from a free kick and another from play and there then followed a barren spell during which neither side could convert their possession but from a Strabane point of view the game looked like it was well and truly over as Beragh mounted little resistance.
The next score came from Strabane substitute Sean Arbuckle who sent over a fine point from play just moments after his entrance to the fray for the injured Gerard McCrossan.
The home side finished with a brace of points but the result was never in any danger as Sigersons continued their recent good form.
This was a convincing win for Strabane against last seasons junior championship runners up, the game was effectively over as a contest at halftime with the entire Strabane team doing their job but knowing that they can up the tempo even more and no doubt that will be exactly what will be required in the coming weeks with some tough games to follow.
Strabane were missing Ciarán Friel, Anthony McMenamin and Kyle Devine for this game but several of the young players coming in did little or nothing wrong and will no doubt become important members of the squad as the season progresses.
