Last chance to see Des Bishop at An Grianan

Des Bishop returns to An Grianán Theatre for one night only with his current hit stand up show 'Tongues' on Tuesday 17 June.

Des Bishop returns to An Grianán Theatre for one night only with his current hit stand up show 'Tongues'.

After his sellout appearance at An Grianán in April he's back for a final reprise of the show on Tuesday 17 June.

Des is currently working hard on a brand new show for the autumn which means this will be the last chance to catch Des as Gaeilge.

Inspired by his RTE show In the Name of the Fada, Tongues recounts Bishop's hilarious foray into the world of Irish Language Learning.

As Bishop has previously proved with his shows 'The Des Bishop Work Experience' and 'Joy in the Hood', no challenge is too great or small for Ireland's adopted son of comedy.

'Tongues' deals with an entirely new challenge for this native New Yorker, where he takes the ultimate step towards Irishness by moving to the Gaeltacht to learn our mother tongue.

Never one for half measures, Des moved to Connemara in spring 2007, to embrace what so many Irish people have avoided, our own native tongue.

Des explores the lighter side of life learning to speak Irish in Connemara, something which has strong memories for many Irish people.

Describing his attempts to grasp the language, Des brings his new found passion for Gaeilge to life with unparalleled energy and comic genius.

The second half of the show sees Des explore the religious side of his identity, from his early days as St. Kevin Church's youngest altar boy with a tendency to be overly theatrical, to his experiences with people who have the power to speak in tongues.

What follows promises to be a blistering night of stand-up comedy, where Des explores his Irish identity - his language and religion - challenging those that speak in tongues while struggling to learn his own!

Prepare for some fresh and highly provocative comedy, as a comic at the very height of his powers demonstrates the success of his encampment in the heart of Connemara, and confronts the idiocies of Christian fundamentalism.

A limited number of tickets are available for the show, call An Grianán Theatre's box office on 0749120777 for further information.
