Murdered doorman's girlfriend tells his killers, 'you are sick'

Jennifer Cowley, the girlfriend of Strabane man, Bryan McGlynn, gunned down at their Derry home one year ago. She was speaking at a PSNI press conference on Tuesday.

THE distraught girlfriend of murdered Strabane man Bryan McGlynn this week described his killers as "absolutely sick".

Jennifer Cowley(25) was speaking a year to the day after her boyfriend was shot dead in their home in the Fountain Hill area of Derry.

Ms Cowley was sleeping beside her boyfriend when a gun man burst into their bedroom and shot Mr McGlynn a number of times.

Rumours have abounded since that the 28-year-old night club bouncer may have been involved in selling drugs.

However these claims have never been substantiated and the McGlynn family have always maintained that he was not involved in drugs.

During a press conference on Tuesday, the officer heading the murder investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Frankie Taylor revealed that the PSNI have identified the killers' vehicle.

Mr Taylor said they were looking for a Ford Escort car which they believed carried the gun man to the murder.

Last week, a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the slaying, however he has since been released without charge.

The arrest brought to six the number of people arrested in relation to the killing.

On Tuesday, Ms Cowley appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

An emotional Ms Cowley told the Strabane Chronicle: "Bryan was just brilliant. He was a great person to be around and really funny.

"He was a doorman and with that you do get alot of grief, but you don't expect it to come to your doorstep. Bryan had fall outs with people, but nothing that would have led you to believe he would have been murdered.

"He got on with everyone," she said.

Ms Cowley would not be drawn on rumours of paramilitary involvement in the murder, but she did have a message for her boyfriend's killers.

"What you have done is absolutely sick and you are sick. No one has the right to take a life in such an evil way.

"Whoever did this has left me a nervous wreck and messed up not just my life but the lives of the entire McGlynn family. I just hope they are caught," she said.
