Strabane Sigersons.........2-18
Brockagh Emmett's............0-5
The senior footballers of Strabane Sigersons made the long journey to the Lough Shore last Sunday afternoon to play Brockagh Emmett's in yrone All County League Division 3 and came away with a resounding nineteen point victory with a fine overall team display.
Strabane were sitting in second spot in the league going into this game against a Brockagh side sitting in fourth place and knew that this would be a tricky encounter given the fact that at the tail end of last season, Brockagh who were already relegated defeated Strabane and effectively sent them down to junior football along with them so the result for Strabane on this occasion was more the sweeter. Another pleasing aspect for Strabane was the defeat of league leaders Drumquin by third placed Glenelly a result that puts Strabane joint top of the league but with Glenelly now only a point behind both teams then an exciting finish to this league can be guaranteed.
Brockagh raced into an early two point lead in this encounter but that's about how good it got for the home side as Strabane took complete control and by the interval led by eleven points with the contest effectively over.
Warner Mullen sent over two points from free kicks in what was an off day by his standards. Chris Devine had an excellent game and weighed in with four first half points, Stephen Stewart and Martin McNulty hit a point apiece but the killer blows were the two Strabane goals with Stephen Stewart and Gerard Murray both finding the net as Brockagh struggled to stay in the game and managing only one more point from a free kick.
Half-time score: Strabane 2-8, Brockagh 0-3.
The second half again belonged in its entirety to Sigersons as they added a further ten points to seal a very convincing nineteen point win.
John-Paul Gallagher hit four points, Martin McNulty and Fergal McGavigan hit a brace each and John McLaughlin and Chris Devine also added points with Brockagh managing only two second half points as they struggled to cope with a Strabane side that were dominant in every part of the field.
Strabane will have been very pleased with the outcome of this game, team managers Dermot Corry and Dessie O'Connor would have been very aware of how difficult a ground that this is to travel to and attempt to gain a win but thankfully each and every Strabane player was firmly focused for the encounter and rose to the occasion and the score line speaks for itself.
Overall it was a solid team display even with the absence of Brendan McLaughlin (holidays) and Danny McBride who is in Boston for the summer playing with McAnespies, the team played excellently with young players like Aaron McLaughlin, Sean Ferry, Gerard McCrossan and Fergal McGavigan all blending in well with some of the more experienced heads in the side.
The only sour point of the game for Strabane was the dismissal of John McLaughlin for two yellow card offences but it only ruled him out of the remainder of the game and he will be available again for selection when they face another difficult trip to play Errigal Ciarán Thirds this Saturday evening.
