A leading art gallery has, for the first time, 'moved outdoors' to showcase one of the most eloquent and creative collections of sculpture ever to be viewed in Ireland.
Omagh-based Gormley's Fine Art is staging its Midsummer Garden Sculpture Exhibition in the award-winning gardens of Brackenstown House, a 500-year-old estate in Swords, Co Dublin.
The sensual, groves, herbs, orchards, sunken lawns and walkways of the tranquil and beautiful Brackenstown House create the perfect backdrop to showcase the work of over 50 artists, combining life size pieces and large installations over 14 feet high with smaller, indoor sculpture pieces.
Included in the exhibition will be the work of many established Irish sculptors and artists including Paddy Campbell, John Behan, Edward Delaney, Orla de Bri, Sandra Bell, Eileen McDonagh and Patrick O Reilly.
They will be joined by a group of artists from the Florentine Academy of Arts, including Cody Swanson and the Academy Director Robert Bodem. This international dimension is highly significant as the presence of their work is echoed by the Irish artists, some of whom have also studied at the famous Academy.
Completing the collection and bridging the gap in generations of sculpture will be the work of young and emerging sculptors including Ian Pollock, and James Horan.
Utilising a range of diverse materials including bronze, stone, ceramic, steel and aluminium with both carved and modelled pieces the collection reflects the creativity and individuality of each of the artists.
"The portrayal of the figure in this exhibition refers to both the human form and the human condition, capturing experience and emotions at the same time" commented Oliver Gormley, of Gormley's Fine Art. "Using the human body to elicit thoughts and sensations, the sculptures will connect the viewer with their own experiences, making the exhibition a truly emotive journey."
Irish sculptor Paddy Campbell is delighted to be involved in the Midsummer Garden Exhibition. "This exhibition is really about increasing awareness of artists working in Ireland, providing an opportunity to view and enhance understanding of their work.
"The aim is to bridge the gap between emerging and established artists, and help appreciate the creative journey both generations bring to sculptural practice."
Running until Sunday, July 6, appointments for this unique event should be pre-booked through Gormley's Fine Art in Dublin on 0035316729031.
