KILLEN RANGERS........................5
DERGVIEW RESERVES..................4
KILLEN Rangers emerged victorious from a thrilling showpiece final to lift the Ivan Sproule Memorial Cup for the first time at Mitchell Park on Thursday evening.
Trailing 4-3 to Dergview Reserves with 20 minutes remaining, Rangers' big guns David Kee and Andy Crawford pounced with two brilliant strikes to win by the odd goal in nine.
A blistering free kick by Institute player Kee drew the sides level before Crawford thundered home a left foot volley to seal the win.
It was a thrilling climax to what had been a pulsating contest throughout.
Trevor Irwin opened the scoring for Killen following a Lee Venard flick-on before Johnny Montgomery outpaced the opposing defence to drill a low shot beyond the diving Trevor Morrison.
No sooner had the Darragh Park second string equalised than their opponents restored their advantage when Clive Morrison dashed in at the back stick to apply the finishing touch to a Lee Arkinson right-wing cross.
Back came Dergview with Mark Lecky netting his first of the evening, that leveller arriving moments ahead of a stylish finish by Irwin which gave Killen a 3-2 advantage. On the stroke of half-time Lecky cut in from the left to fire a thunderbolt to Morrison's far top corner from 20 yards and midway through the second half younger brother Adam scored from the penalty spot to give Dergview Reserves the lead for the first time.
However it was Killen's night, Kee and Crawford producing goals good enough to grace any final.
