Five star guesthouse in Clanabogan

SITUATED in a beautiful rural location in Clanabogan, Cherry Tree Cottage is a sanctuary for visitors to the area.

Set up in May 2006 by Anne and John Townsend, the self-catering guest house received five star status from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board last July.

Originally from Kildare, Mrs Townsend and her husband live only a few minutes from the house, which they describe as a 'home from home.'

Designed to sleep six, there are two double bedrooms, a twin room and a single room. A children's television and play room are provided together with a family size lounge.

Mrs Townsend believes that the secret to the success of her guesthouse is its location.

"The house is situated in a quiet, rural location, ideal for walking. It is only five miles from Omagh and near Donegal so it is a great area for visitors."

Even though the house is self-catering, the couple are very accommodating of their guests. They provide a baby cot and high chair, towels and linens, and guests are always met with a welcoming open fire and welcome pack on arrival.

Owning the guest house provides great enjoyment for the couple.

"The best bit is meeting the different people who stay in the house and seeing the enjoyment they get from it."

Inspiration for the name "Cherry Tree Cottage" came from a house in England, lending a quaint feeling, in contrast to the truly modern interior.

The house was decorated by interior design company 'Anna Rose Interiors', run by Mrs Townsend and her daughter.

They have created a beautiful setting for people who wish to stay in the area, by creating a balance between the quaint and the modern.

One of the bedrooms is finished in an antique style while the children's bedrooms combine bright colours with classic white.

A comment made by a guest at the house sums up what it has to offer the visitor.

'Without doubt Cherry Tree Cottage must be the NI Tourist Board's best kept secret in self catering accommodation. Hugely deserving of its five stars, the location is perfect, if tranquillity, beautiful scenery and relaxation is what you want, along with the most luxurious and well equipped house. Truly a home from home. We will return. The welcome pack was excellent.'
