All the fun of the fair at Folk Park this Easter

IF YOU are searching for the perfect location to experience a traditional Easter outing then look no further than the Ulster American Folk Park and its charming A Spring Fair Day event. From Saturday to Tuesday, April 7-10, this highly popular four-day extravaganza will offer a fascinating insight into a typical market day of the late 19th century.

Stroll down Shipbuoy Street and experience a busy market day. Stall-holders, shopkeepers, travelling journeymen and street entertainers will keep you amused for hours on end between midday and 6pm. Meet a range of colourful characters like the fortune-teller, horse trader and a travelling magician while beggars and pick-pockets will also be on the loose.

Shipbuoy Street features a number of original shops from towns around Ulster including Reynold's Ropeworks from Dungannon, Reilly's Pub from Newtownbutler and Hill's Chemist and Blair's Printers from Strabane. These venues and many more will be used over the weekend to demonstrate traditional skills and crafts as well for dramatic role-plays. For those needing a well-earned rest, the 'snugs' of Reilly's pub offer the ideal relaxation point with traditional musicians.

Craft demonstrations taking place over the four days include wheel-hooping and basket making while younger visitors can enjoy egg and spoon races, horse and cart rides and feeding of the Easter chicks.

Visitors can also taste traditional foods such as ginger bread, traditional home churned butter, pancakes and bread cooked in the pot oven.

In the New World side of the museum there will be demonstrations from American Frontier trappers and traders and Native Americans of the late 19th century.

Experience living history at its best. Normal admission rates apply. For further details please telephone 028 8224 3292 or check out www.folkpark.com
