MARCH began with what has become an annual traditional address by the President of Rotary. As a bank manager, Tommy Doran, not surprisingly chose the subject of 'Managing your Savings' and ably supported by two colleagues, held members' attention throughout a most interesting talk.
Probus pride themselve on the variety and professionalism of their speakers, the next of which was Commander Peter Archdale RN, reminiscing on his time on board HMS Endurance, thrusting through pack ice to photograph all forms of colourful wildlife.
Probus member, Gerry Norton, paraded his Theatrical Life and Times to an enthusiastic audience. Gerry recounted his early exposure to the stage, while as a pupil at Blackrock College. This experience proved invaluable when it came to pantomime and play acting with Omagh Players.
It was expected that Stephen McKenna, in his talk later in the month, would continue the theatrical theme, but he surprised all with a final ad lib talk on Cuba to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the accession of Fidel Castro as president of that country.
Probus meets every Wednesday morning in season, at Omagh Golf Club.
