Trad concert at An Creagán

TRADITIONAL concert goers will be served up a special musical treat at An Creagán on Friday, August 31 9.30pm, when Cathal Hayden, Maírtán O'Connor, Seamis O'Dowd and P J Mc Donald take the stage for an evening of quality entertainment.

Cathal Hayden (fiddle) from Pomeroy learned and played music with his father from an early age. His first instrument was banjo, which he went on to win All Ireland championships at all age levels. Cathal then turned to the fiddle and within a year of starting, became the All Ireland champion.

He recorded his first solo album, Handed Down, with Arty McGlynn about 12 years ago and in 1991 formed Four Men and a Dog. He recently launched his second solo album on his own label Hook Records which has already been selling extremely well.

Martin O'Connor (accordion) from Galway has worked with all the top names in Irish music and been involved with groups such as Midnight Well and De Dannan. More recently he has worked with Bill Whelan and he was a member of the original Riverdance band.

Martin composed Rain of light Suit for St Patrick's Day 2003.

Seamie O'Dowd has built a solid reputation as one of Ireland's finest musicians.

He has toured worldwide as a member of Sligo traditional Irish band Dervish as well as recording and playing with many other world-renowned musicians such as Mairtin O'Connor, Liam O'Flynn, Matt Molloy, Mary McPartlan, Steve Wickham and many others.

His first solo album, Headful of Echoes, is an eclectic, yet solid listen that reflects a wide-ranging musical experience.

Joining the trio on the night is P J McDonald, son of the legendary Hugh Pat McDonald, known at singing sessions from the 1950's until recent years. P J is surely a chip of the old block. He knows when to present a humorous song and when his audience is ready for something serious, or at the right moment tear into a set of reels on the whistle, adding to this his tasteful guitar playing. P J's talent has been one very well kept secret for too long.

Don't miss what promises to be a great night's entertainment.
