Benefit from sponsored fire engine pull

NEWTOWNSTEWART fire officers held a very successful fire engine pull from Newtownstewart to Victoria Bridge and the proceeds of this, a cheque for £3,486 was handed over to members of Newtownstewart Branch of the Ulster Cancer Foundation at a recent function in Newtownstewart Golf Club.

A spokesperson for the branch said the group was grateful to the fire officers, their wives and girlfriends who worked hard on the day despite the weather.

Margaret Fletcher, treasurer, received the cheque on behalf of the branch and thanked all who took part. Sylvia Lucy, area co-ordinator of the Ulster Cancer Foundtion also thanked everyone present and told how the money would be spent in Northern Ireland in an effort to support those with cancer and research into the disease.
