The fifth book in the Drumquin series was finally revealed to a large gathering last Saturday in the Social Centre. The editorial sub-committee of the Community Youth Centre consisted of Peter McNulty (editor), Elizabeth Bonnar, Anne Lynch, Cathal Lynch, Paddy Montague, Georgina Millar and Pat Scully.
The highlight of the evening was an address by Professor Seamus O'Cathain of University College, Dublin. The audience heard Seamus recall his experience of growing up in Drumquin, the characters he had encountered, the opportunity he had of improving his ability in the Irish language.
He expressed his delight with the contents of the book and hoped that people would consider posting them off to emigrants for Christmas.
Cathal Lynch was the MC for the evening and as well as singing 'The Hills Above Drumquin' introduced a variety of artists.
Stephen Garry from Dromore told some humorous stories. The Scottish dancers performed beautifully under the direction of Ethel McClennan as did the Irish dancers of the O'Kane School. Young Donna McArdle and Nuala McBride were delightful vocalists and local man Pat McElhill was in fine voice. The instrumental group consisted of Terry Maguire, John Skelton and Connor Woods.
