Omagh police urge missing Kenyan woman to make contact

FRIENDS of a Kenyan woman who disappeared from her Mountfield home almost a month ago are appealing for her to make contact to reassure them that she is safe and well.

Police have put out an appeal for information for Salome Wanjira Mugo, who left her home at Mountfield on Thursday March 15 to make contact with her friends or them.

Salome is described as being aged about 32 and is about 5'4" tall and of a petite build. She speaks accented English.

Police believe that Salome may be in another part of Northern Ireland or Britain and are stressing that their appeal is solely aimed at establishing that she is safe and well.

A police spokesperson said, "If Salome learns of this appeal, she is asked to contact police, or the friends she stayed with in Mountfield, to reassure them of her well-being."

Chairman of the Mountfield Community Development Association and Sinn Féin Cllr Declan McAleer said, "This is an alarming and worrying development and I appeal for everyone to co-operate with the relevant authorities in doing all they can to find this woman.

"Everyone in the Mountfield area are deeply concerned. We pride ourselves at being very welcoming to everyone that move into the area and we appreciate them as part of our community and we hope she returns safe and sound.

"However it is my understanding that she may have contacted her family in Kenya and has recently been living in the Omagh area.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows of her whereabouts to get her to contact her friends in Mountfield."

Omagh Town Cllr Paddy McGowan has reiterated this appeal for anyone who has any information on Salome's whereabouts to come forward with that information, but he has also called for the PSNI to be more pro-active in their investigation.

He said, "This is a very worrying situation as this woman has been missing for a month now, and I think a full investigation has to be made by the PSNI, rather than only putting appeals into the paper. It is more than simply someone going missing when they have been gone this length of time without any word — something has to be done about it. There must be a whereabouts or a last sighting that could be investigated."

Police are urging anyone who has seen Salome, or knows of her present whereabouts, is asked to contact police in Omagh on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
