I don't know where your correspondent Sean Mac An Girr (UlsterHerald, Marchg 22 and 29) has been living, but it has beeen Omagh District Council policy not to fly national emblems for some time.
But that aside, if you look at the parade and this town of Omagh as a microcosm of the rest of the Northern counties, there's a healing process going on. This parade was part of that process to include Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter with no air of anomosity, just to enjoy the occasion and get together as a community; which we did and it was a great success. Top marks to Colleen McCann and her co-workers for their organisation of this celebration.
Mr Mac an Girr and his supporter Stephen Rafferty Letters, March 29) have missed the whole point of community-based celebration in this context. They need to calm themselves and enjoy life; it's too short. Their understanding of language, religion and nationality are a thing of the past. They should not be used as a weapon to beat their neighbour, but celebrated.
Well done Omagh District Council.
