'Plain sailing' in Canada for local company

ADDING to its 2006 success in assisting 13 companies from Derry and Donegal to secure lucrative deals overseas through the North West Growth Initiative Programme, Omagh business consultancy International Business Initiatives (IBI Ltd), has just concluded another highly successful business trip to Canada.

This time, IBI assisted Fermanagh-based company North South Marine Leisure clinch an exclusive distribution deal with Toronto boat builders, Grew. The deal guarantees exclusive rights to sell and distribute the rapidly-emerging "Cutter" fibreglass leisure boat range throughout the entire island of Ireland.

Brian Armstrong, managing director of North South Marine Leisure, commented, "I'm delighted with the results we have attained through our participation on the Product Transfer Programme and the specialist assistance offered to us by IBI has been pivotal in helping us secure this valuable deal. The attractive new product range of leisure speed boat will enable us to access niche markets throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, giving us a much needed competitive edge."

With its 11-year track record, IBI assisted North South Marine Leisure through the Product Transfer Programme, a cross-border project supported by the EU INTERREG IIIA, the North East Partnership, Udaras na Gaeltachta and Omagh, Cookstown and Fermanagh councils.

The programme allows a total of 20 business owners to receive 12 months specialist consultancy in international business partnerships, exporting, product sourcing, market research, overseas visits and negotiation.

"Getting results is really what it's all about and that's exactly what we have been doing since we started the business in 1995," said IBI consultant Pearse McCloskey. "I'm thrilled for Brian and North South Marine and wish him every success in the future.

"Specialist assistance can go a long way and I would encourage similar-minded companies to seek programmes such as this which deliver real bottom-line outputs," Mr McCloskey added.

More information about the Product Transfer Programme or IBI is available at www.ibiltd.com or by calling 028 8225 0506.
