Carrickmore Youth Centre is bringing Boogie Nights: The 70's Musical to The Patrician from Wednesday, November 19 until Sunday, November 23.
Co-written by ex-Eastender Shane Richie, Boogie Nights is based around the culture in the 70's. Telling the heart-warming and hilarious story of Roddy O'Neill and his friends, their lives, loves and experiences, Boogie Nights relives the passions and fashions of the decade that taste forgot.
Under the direction of local drama teacher, Cliodhna McCallan and local musician and primary school teacher, Conor McCrystall, The Patrician will come alive to the sounds of the 70's with a funky fresh set and a seriously talented local cast.
Finbarr McPhilips takes on the male lead as Roddy and his love interest, Debs, is played by Caroline Donaghy. Roddy's mates are played by Brian McCallan and Michael Donnelly. Annette Kelly will take on the role of Trish, Debs' best friend and Claire McCartan gets the opportunity to wow the audience with her singing talent as Lorraine, the female singer of the house band and a catalyst to a lot of the drama.
The story unfolds in the local disco, Boogie Nights, where the audience get to see all the drama surrounding Roddy's life set to popular songs of the 70's, when you'll see the talented chorus break into energetic dance routines that will make you want to jump off your seat and join in.
Popular local actors Peter Hughes and Jimmy Quinlivan are perfectly suited to the roles of Eamon, who is Roddy's father and Spencer, the front man of the band at Boogie Nights. Both characters provide endless sources of humour throughout the musical and are truly brought to life by the talents of Peter and Jimmy, not only for their acting ability but you'll see solo music numbers from both of them; a sight and indeed sounds, not to be missed.

The chorus is made up of a range of young people from the parish, most of whom have never been on stage before. Two 'special' roles are taken on by Tony O'Gara as Baz the bouncer and Seamus McCallan as the barman at the club. Appearances by these two will have you doubled over in laughter.
Music will be provided by our live band known as The Love Machine, made up of Conor McCrystall, Noelle Toner, James McCrory, Matthew McMahon and Ciaran Donavon, all of whom are from the area and are a gifted bunch.
Just for fun, fancy dress is optional, however it is encouraged particularly for Saturday and Sunday night, just to help you truly boogie with the cast.
