Clarification from tv licence story

IN response to your article, 'Double standards tarnish the law' (Ulster Herald June 4), I would like to clarify that you cannot be imprisoned for watching television without a valid TV licence. A custodial sentence can be imposed as a result of non-payment of court fines, including fines for TV licence evasion. However, this is a matter strictly for the courts.
