I am tired of this long wake. I and my family have gone through ten long years and I am exhausted. I only wish to continue the battle to find truth and justice which my wife and the other victims deserve.
During this time, I have been confronted by a prolonged procrastination on the Anniversary Memorial event by the Omagh District Council and its higher echelons. I received an invitation on July 10 to attend the 10th anniversary of the Omagh Bomb, which, to say the least, was very blunt and politically discompassionate.
I will not be there for various reasons. I have not received a list of dignitaries who may attend; some I would not be compatible with. The other reason would be that I will be at Mass and visiting my wife's grave for a day of reflection and peace. I do not have to be invited to these.
As already well noted, I do not agree in particular with the garish pop-art folly which has been placed at the site where so many were killed and hurt. On a poignant and emotional note, it is directly opposite my wife Libby's former shop. This will not be a memorial but a cause of conflict and confrontation.
They (ODC) have created a public spectacle with this plinth of glass and are making Omagh into a cemetery for the dubious rewards of a tourist exhibition. I, as a Christian, and I hope an honourable person would not impose that on these loved ones.
