PSNI were nowhere to be seen

It is to my disgust that I have to "bad mouth" the PSNI.

On Sunday, August 3, I attended the Anniversary Service in Fintona organised by Ecclesville LOL No. 34 and Blossomhill LOL No. 411.

Both lodges and visiting brethren were accompanied by the Barr Pipe Band.

At approx 10.10am, the parade made its way up Main Street towards the top of the town. We could see three or four men on the right-hand side of the street, one of whom approached the band and started shouting "up the f****** RA" at the band members. I'm sure all the readers know what this means without going into any more detail.

Can I just add that he didn't choose his words wisely and it seemed a strange way for him to show his support for this organisation; maybe this was because he had consumed some alcohol.

He then continued in among the Orangemen shouting the same thing. We looked behind us to see what the police were going to do but, to our disbelief, they were nowhere to be seen.

As you've often heard before, you never find a police constable when you're looking for one.

By this time, an Orangeman had accompanied this thug onto the pavement where he continued up the street still shouting obscenities at us.

As we were walking up Mill Street, the PSNI were behind us again.

I would like to know where they went; this was quite a trivial matter but it could have very easily got out of control and the PSNI wouldn't have been there to protect us.
