THE new chairperson of the Arts and Culture Committee of Omagh District Council, SINN Féin Cllr McColgan said he would use his term to promote and encourage participation in arts and culture.

"Arts and culture is recognised by Omagh District council as a very important and distinct sector," he said. "We are committed to supporting and encouraging the development of, and participation in, arts and cultural activities by all sections of the community.

"The building of the new Strule Arts Centre is proof of such promotion of arts and culture by the Omagh District Council. This is something I hope to replicate in my year as chairperson of the committee."
