St Colmcille's Primary School, Omagh, received top marks for an inspection report carried out by the Department of Education's (DE) Education and Training Inspectorate Branch recently.
The report highlighted the excellent Educational and Pastoral provision in the school focusing on English, Information Communication Technology, the provision of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and the procedures for pastoral care including arrangements for child protection.
One Inspector commented on the strong caring ethos and excellent relationships at all levels within the school.
"The children spoke very confidently and positively of their experiences at school including the educational trips, extra-curricular activities and the friendly and helpful staff. The children demonstrate a great pride in the school; they cooperate willingly and respectfully with their teachers and are welcoming and courteous to all visitors."
Chief Inspector Marian Matchett paid a special visit to commend the pupils, staff and Board of Governors. She attended the weekly assembly where P7 candidates made speeches for the positions of 'Head Boy' and 'Deputy Head Boy' before visiting each class where she talked to the pupils.
St Colmcille's Principal Anthony Bradley said, "This report is a credit to everyone associated with St Colmcille's PS including management, Board of Governors, staff, parents, WELB, CCMS personnel, and the VIPs themselves the Very Important Pupils! It highlights in particular the dedication and hard work of the entire school community over the years."
Board of Governors chairman Barry Mathers added, "In these times of educational and social change, St Colmcille's PS is a place where excellence pervades and where parents and children can have great confidence in and be very proud of the quality of the education provided there."
