Summer encores for St Ciaran's students

Thu, Jul 19, 2007

BY DAMIEN DONNELLY

ST CIARAN's HS in Ballygawley brought the curtain down on another successful year at the campus with some special activities and presentations during the final month of term.

A number of photocalls took place to honour the achievements of pupils throughout various sporting, academic and vocational disciplines.

From Féis prizewinners to notable awards in poetry and mathematics competitions, from success on the football fields to a showcase day of sports at the St Ciaran's base itself, there was certainly plenty to celebrate.

Some of the landmark successes have been featured in 'News From The Valley' in the UH over recent weeks but the pictures that are carried here capture further the various strings of achievement that make up into the success story that is St Ciaran's.

In keeping with the tradtional end of term programme, St Ciaran's HS Sports Day of 2007 proved to be an ideal opportunity for students and staff alike to relax following a hectic school year.

Competition levels were still high, though, as some budding athletes of the future endeavoured to make their mark in a number of events that included middle distance running, sprinting, high jump, shot putting, long jump and other old favourites.

Beautiful sunshine on this particular day, coupled with excellent track and field facilities at St Ciaran's, provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable occasion.

Sports Day MC Martin McCarron kept the banter going all the way and there was a real summer feel to the whole event.

Charity fund-raising is very much part and parcel of what St Ciaran's does as well, with several worthy causes helped out by the enthusiasm of students and staff alike over the course of any given year.

The doors at Ciaran's may have closed for the summer break but come September the place will be a hive of activity again.
