As a life-long resident of Glen Road, I am most upset by the inaccurate reporting of the recent gun find incident in Drumquin. The PSNI released a statement saying that these guns had been found on waste ground in the Glen Road. This is untrue. The guns were found in Drumquin village and how this could have been described as Glen Road, I do not know. It is more than two miles from the beginning of Glen Road.
We have already had considerable controversy in the Glen Road this year over the issue of the flying of provocative flags and emblems relating to the Ulster GAA Championship. This caused great anger and led to disputes never before seen in our area, which has, thankfully, always been free from trouble, apart from the odd outbreak of anti-social behaviour.
Luckily, with the defeat of the Fermanagh team, this particular dispute should now resolve itself and we can get back to being good neighbours. But to now be hit by this false reporting of the finding of guns, there is fear that instead of the dispute settling, it may instead escalate into something much more serious.
All right-thinking people will pray that this does not happen; we don't need this kind of thing.
Needless to say, I totally condemn the illegal holding of guns anywhere, especially as in this case where two local men had to spend all night away from their wives and families, to protect a woman who felt she was under threat. Family life is under enough pressure from various sources without this added pressure.
