The Ulster Under-14 Girls blitz was held recently at sun drenched Kileavey in County Armagh.
Eleven teams, two hundred and thirty girls and the good weather made this the best blitz to date, this being the sixth running of the Annalee Cup and Chapman Plate competitions. It is now one of the most prestigious events in the Ulster calendar.
The day got under way with the first round of the Chapman Shield, with victories for Tyrone 2nds and Armagh 1sts over Antrim and Derry. This was followed by the start of the Annalee Cup when Tyrone defeated Down and Monaghan overcame Cavan.
Then there were two rounds of the Shield with victories for Fermanagh, Antrim against Armagh 2nds and Derry and Tyrone and Down 2nds over Armagh 1sts and Armagh 2nds
Then it was back to the Cup with Tyrone overcoming Monaghan and Down defeating Cavan. The fourth round of the Shield produced victories for Tyrone and Armagh 1sts and victory in the final round robin game to Fermanagh.
In the last round of the Cup, Tyrone, who had already qualified, drew with Cavan and Down defeated Monaghan to set the final up as a repeat of the first game.
In the shield semi finals Tyrone and Armagh progressed to the final with good wins over Down and Fermanagh.
The first finals of the day were the Cup and A plate finals. Tyrone showed the form they had produced all day to see off the challenge of the ever improving Mourne girls in a very entertaining and exciting game. Monaghan won the plate at the expence of a young Cavan side.
The shield was won by the Tyrone development team over a gallant Armagh side and this is probably not the last time these two will decide an Ulster title this year. The B plate was won by Fermanagh when they overcame Down's second string for the second time.
