Plunketts promotion hopes suffer setback
Derrylaughan 4-8
Pomeroy 0-9
POMEROY'S hopes of being involved in the promotion picture via the league received a setback at the Loughshore on Friday evening as Derrylaughan picked up a crucial win to help easy them away from the bottom sides in Division Two.
Fergal McAliskey got the Kevin Barrys off to the perfect start with a goal after only six minutes and even though Pomeroy responded with points from Justin McCaffrey, Mark Corr and Ronan McKenna another major for the hosts from Kevin Coary enabled them to lead at the break.
In the second half the Kevin Barrys took over with Ciaran Gervin and Paddy Quinn both finding the Plunketts' net with Coary and Ciaran Quinn both supplying points as they ran out comfortable winners against the disappointing visitors. Pomeroy failed to get going in the second half at all with a point each from Christopher Colhoun and Mark McKenna all they had to show for their efforts.
Fintona make further progress
Fintona 1-7
Glenelly 0-9
FINTONA'S steady climb up the Division Three table continued at the expense of second placed Glenelly on Sunday, albeit by the minimum margin.
The Pearses served up a seven-point salvo in the last 12 minutes to thwart a disappointed St Joseph's side.
Sean Monteith booted over two opening points for Fintona before Seamus Harkin and Conal McCullagh got Glenelly's scoreboard account moving.
Harkin and Nicholas with point braces propelled Glenelly into pole position but Sean Connolly hit the net for the home team 22 minutes in. By the break it was 0-7 to 1-2 in favour of the visitors.
Scores were hard to come by in the third quarter but Fintona produced a telling burst of scores in the closing stages to land the spoils, Monteith and Aaron McCarney leading the charge as the Pearses got their noses in front where it mattered.
Second half surge
Dregish 2-9
Beragh 1-6
DREGISH put some daylight between themselves and Beragh during the second half of this Division Three encounter at the Pearse Og's base on Sunday.
The Red Knights shaded the opening half exchanges and led by 1-4 to 1-3 as the short whistle sounded. Aidan O'Kane rounded off a nice move to crack home goal number one for Dregish, Martin Rodgers replying at the opposite end.
Gerard Owens, Rodgers and Paddy Meenagh tagged on away points with Aidan and Christopher O'Kane(0-2) keeping Dregish in close proximity.
Daniel Morris gave Dregish the perfect boost after the restart when getting in for a well finished major and the home team never looked back.
Beragh struggled for scores in the remainder of the contest as the Pearse Og's strode ahead thanks to accurate Christopher O'Kane place-kicking and a couple more in open play via Aidan O'Kane.
