PUPILS from Ardstraw Primary School and St Eugene's Primary School, Victoria Bridge, attended the launch of their digital storytelling DVD, entitled Sharing Stories, at Ardstraw PS last week.
Parents and teachers were invited along to the event to view for the first time the stories that the P6 and P7 pupils had created through a series of workshops facilitated by the Verbal Arts Centre.
As part of the four-week programme, the children explored various aspects of their cultural identities. They visited each others schools and learnt about the similarities and differences in the areas where they lived. They also learnt how to write stories using digital cameras and create digital stories, including how to record voiceovers and add sound effects and music.
The project was funded by the Schools Community Relations Programme through the Western Education and Library Board. The Verbal Arts Centre has a number of Community Relations Programmes suitable for primary and post-primary schools. Anyone interested in discussing taking part in any of these should contact Sarah Lapsley at the Centre on (028) 71266946.
