WEST Tyrone Cllr Peter Kelly has said the postal services in Tyrone are "inadequate" after it emerged that a number of people in the Trillick area are having to wait an extra two days or more for letters to be delivered.
Cllr Kelly believes it is a backlog of mail from the industrial action earlier in the month. He called on the postal services to put in what ever extra resources that are needed to clear the backlog.
"I have received numerous complaints from constituents about having to miss appointments due to the delay in mail.
"I myself had to wait 12 days for an envelope posted in the Tyrone area with a first class stamp on it," said the Sinn Féin councillor.
"I have requested to meet with Royal Mail in order to deal with this situation. We are now coming into a very busy period of the year with Christmas only a matter of weeks away.
" If such a backlog of post isn't dealt with the knock on effect will only serve to make the situation much worse than it currently is."
Mountjoy drive-by
POLICE have seized a shotgun and a .22 rifle after complaints of shots being discharged from a moving vehicle.
Police stopped the men in a van at Rash Road, Mountjoy, on Thursday night (October 25). A shotgun and cartridges and a rifle and ammunition were seized. Both men are to be reported to the PPS for suspected firearms offences.
It is an offence to discharge shots from a moving vehicles, or from any position within 20 metres of the centre line of a road.
