Stop 'wanton vandalism' in Carrickmore area, says Sinn Féin councillor

SINN Féin Mid-Tyrone Cllr Anne Marie Fitzgerald has strongly condemned the recent spate of vandalism and damage to residential and commercial properties in the Creggan and Sultan areas of Carrickmore.

Cllr Fitzgerald said, "I am deeply disappointed at the unnecessary and pure wanton vandalism that was carried out on people's homes and community facilities in Creggan and Sultan in recent weeks. The local community centre as well as people's homes were attacked and

there can be no justification for this.

"The sad thing is the people carrying this out are from the local community – so the attacks are against themselves and their friends and neighbours," she said.

"People engaged in these mindless acts of vandalism should stop. As this was an attack on the local community, these destructive elements should be confronted and in a lot of cases their parents should be made to face up to their responsibilities."
