A LOCAL motorist who took evasive action to try to prevent a collision with the car in front was prosecuted at Omagh Magistrates' Court this week for driving without due care and attention.
Adrian Hamilton, of 94 Tullyrush Road, Omagh, was charged after an incident on the Dromore road, on July 14. The court heard that the car in front of the defendant's van had stopped and was indicating to turn off. The defendant only saw the car's brake lights at the last minute and whereas he took evasive action to try to avoid contact, a trailer he'd been towing struck the car causing damage to both the trailer and the car.
The driver of the stricken car told police who attended at the scene that he saw the defendant's vehicle in his rear view mirror and commented, "He was flying."
Solicitor Ken Duncan acted for the defendant and said that it was unfortunate that the defendant's trailer had clipped the injured party's car. However, he said that his client had entered a plea of guilty at the earliest opportunity and came before the court with a clean driving record.
The RM handed down a £200 fine and four penalty points.
