THE Charlie Donnelly Weekend's Annual Creative Writing Competition will be launched this Friday night at CRAIC Theatre, Coalisland at 7.15pm.
Come along to hear tips on successful creative writing and learn full details of the entry process. This year's theme is The Flight of the Earls A Story of Emigration and entries are invited as prose or poetry.
The Flight of the Earls was one of the most poignant turning points in Irish history. Perhaps you too have a story to tell of a unique turning point in your life, or of that of a fictional character who created change by leaving his or her old life behind.
The Charlie Donnelly Weekend is held annually to commemorate the work of the soldier poet from Killybrackey who died aged 22 during the Spanish Civil War in Jarama. His phrase, 'even the olives are bleeding' remains one of the most powerful evocations of the war. This year's event is extra special as it marks the 70th anniversary of his death.
For a full programme, which includes a showing of Land and Freedom, a panel discussion featuring Martin McGuinness MLA and a musical extravaganza, please contact CRAIC Arts Theatre, Coalisland, telephone 028 8774 1100.
