Omagh artist Geraldine O'Reilly is staging a solo exhibition of her work in the Alley Arts Centre, Strabane in an exhibition entitled 'Aspects'. The exhibition contains a new body of work that she has been working on for the past two years.
Geraldine graduated with a BA Honours degree in Visual Art from the University of Lancaster and has previously exhibited in a number of solo exhibitions and group shows locally, nationally and internationally. She has work in a number of private collections in the UK, Ireland and Europe but also as far a field as America, Canada and Australia. Geraldine, a very accomplished artist, has won several awards for her art.
She works mainly in mixed media pieces. Landscapes serve as the subject matter of much of her compositions.
Geraldine says, "In a sense my work is a celebration of the boglands, misty hills, patchwork fields and rugged uplands that make up our ever-changing landscapes."
passionate
Geraldine investigates the vibrant landscape in a passionate colourful manner. She often combines gentle washes of colour with thick layers of textured paint and soft pastels. She paints landscapes that are characterised by bold technique and bright colours.
She also makes mixed media textile pieces, again inspired by the landscapes, that include hand-made felt with stitching, with other fabrics and paint applied to the felt. Her recent works, although based on landscapes, are not necessarily identifiable as particular places and tend to be an amalgamation of images which are not intended to be traditional interpretations. Colour has an important part to play in these interpretations.
Geraldine's exhibition 'Aspects' officially opens on Friday, June 12 at 7pm in the Alley Arts Centre, Railway Street, Strabane (028 7138 4444) and continues until Saturday, July 4.
