Can Omagh musicians win the BT Sounds Like Summer 09?

Bands like Sunday Wreckage could claim the title.

The North West is set to be rocking to the Sounds of Summer this August, with musicians from across Ireland and the UK set to perform at the Alley Theatre, Strabane. However will any Omagh bands make it to the prestigious finals?

The BT Sounds Like Summer Music Festival 09 will not only be offering musicians the chance to perform in one of the best music venues in the North West, but also the chance to win a 'money can't buy' prize, which will put the winning act onto the next step of their musical career. Aimed at uncovering the very best in unsigned musical talent, the festival will attract music fans from across the North West to hear the very best in musical talent.

Last year over 50 bands and performers entered the competition, including bands not only based in the North West, but also from America, Dublin and Belfast. Festival judges had the unenviable task of whittling down that group until by the end of August only one remained – Donegal Town's Pavesi.

Since being crowned the first ever Sounds Like Summer champions, the four-piece have enjoyed huge exposure, largely due to their first prize of recording a professional music video to accompany their hit single ,Turnaround Year. This year the winners of the Sounds Like Summer Music Festival competition will not only receive a music video and CD professionally produced, but courtesy of the Sounds Like Summer main sponsors, BT, the winner(s) will receive a BT Hub and BT Broadband free for one year.

John Kerr, Alley Theatre manager stated, "While undoubtedly last year's event was a great success, we have been planning something really special for the second year of the competition. We are delighted that telecom giants BT have very kindly come on board to sponsor Sounds Like Summer 09, guaranteeing a major first prize and massive media exposure for the winner.

"Last year many of the artists performing at Sounds Like Summer took a major step on their music career, as the event guaranteed huge media exposure and attracted music agents from across the island of Ireland."

The deadline for bands to enter is fast approaching (June 19th), so whether you play Irish traditional, rock, acoustic, Indie, folk, rap or even thrash metal, Sounds Like Summer is looking for you to enter. Simply upload one of your original tracks to www.connect2yourtunes.com/soundslikesummer/ or contact the Alley Theatre marketing office on 028 71884760 for more information.
