Old Mountfield Road traffic lane scheme 'back on track'
OMAGH Sinn Féin Cllr Sean Begley says that a scheme to install a fourth traffic lane on the Old Moutfield Road at the junction with Mountjoy Road/Gortin Road is now back on track after it emerged that the contractor who turned up to commence the scheme was pulled off site because of a disagreement between Roads Service and BT about the re-location of a telecommunications cable.
He said, "This vital scheme was scheduled to commence at the beginning of summer. However, when work on the scheme was about to commence, the contractor was pulled off site. Given the danger of this scheme being suspended indefinitely due to the problem that had emerged, I have been pressing Roads Service to resolve the issue so that work on the scheme can proceed without any further delay. I have now been told that the scheme is back on track, work will commence immediately, and should now be fully completed before the end of the year."
