Predator Elliott snatches late winner for Glebe
KILLEN RANGERS.................................2
GLEBE UNITED.....................................3
MASTER craftsman Collie Elliott displayed his predatory instincts to score a late winner in this hard fought encounter at the Village Ground.
With just five minutes remaining the hotshot latched on to a Derek Maxwell pass on the left, cut inside defender Stuart Lindsay and steered the ball expertly past goalkeeper Jason Young.
It was a cruel blow on Rangers who looked good value for a point on their second-half showing and indeed the home side almost snatched a share of the spoils right at the death but visiting netminder Chris Burke denied Scott Sproule.
It was a foul on Sproule that allowed Clive Morrison to open the scoring from the penalty spot but by half-time the visitors had their noses in front thanks to a crisp 12-yard finish from Brian Sweeney and goal by midfielder Barry Hegarty, after a handling error by Young.
Killen though stormed back on the resumption of the new half and, after Morrison and Trevor Irwin both spurned excellent openings, Sproule rounded the goalkeeper to restore parity.
The class of veteran Elliott though sealed the win for Glebe.
Grey pounces late to clinch draw
DERGVIEW RESERVES..........................2
FINTONA SWIFTS.................................2
CENTRAL midfielder Scott Grey earned a physically superior Swifts a deserved share of the spoils with a late strike against a Dergview second string that had gained the upper hand by the half-time interval.
A cracking angled strike by midfielder Bob McCreery gave the homesters a tonic start but a Collie Fisher snap shot had drawn the sides level at the midway point of the opening half. The home side, buoyed by their midweek six-hit against Glebe, again seized the initiative when a sweeping move up the left was finished with a trademark low finish by the in-form John Montgomery.
In stark contrast to the first half though, it was Fintona, who called the shots in the second period and with barely 10 minutes remaining Grey pounced to lift the ball into the net following a goalmouth scramble.
Barrowfield win
BERAGH SWIFTS ..................................1
BARROWFIELD.....................................3
THREE second-half goals clinched a deserved win for the Derg visitors against a Beragh Swifts side that will miss the influence of Robert McGrew and Graham McCain during the coming months.
After a scoreless first half in which Kyle McKane was twice thwarted by the visiting goalkeeper, Barrowfield grabbed the lead through Tony Breen who rounded his marker and the Swifts custodian to finish with some aplomb.
A miss-hit shot by old stager Declan Catterson then doubled the visitors' tally before Peter McGarvey surged on to Aiden Lynch's exquisite throughball to lob home the third.
Beragh did have the last word when striker Michael Browne headed home at the back stick but by then the horse had well and truly bolted.
Timlin nets winner for Hospitals
ENNISKILLEN SWIFTS.........................0
OMAGH HOSPITALS.............................1
HOSPITALS boss Brendan Morrison couldn't contain his delight after his side picked up maximum points in Enniskillen against a Swifts outfit he fully expects to be in the shake-up come the end of the season.
The impressive Ryan Timlin grabbed the only goal of the game two minutes before the half-time interval when he dashed into the box to glance Derryl McQuaid's teasing free kick over the head the advancing goalkeeper.
Earlier Timlin shuddered the home crossbar with a venomous strike while Ronan McCanny twice came to Hospitals' rescue in one--on-one situations with the opposing strike force.
And it was Swifts that looked the more threatening in an evenly balanced second half with McCanny somehow pushing a goalbound effort onto his bar three minutes from time.
As for Omagh there were encouraging debuts for Brian Mullin and Brian Beard, who watched in disbelief as the home netminder dived at full stretch to keep out his 20-yard thunderbolt.
