Popular Cork tenor Finbar Wright has amassed a legion of fans both as a solo singer and one of The Irish Tenors, not only in Ireland and America but worldwide. Hot on the heels of a sell-out tour of the States where The Irish Tenors are the most popular touring act after U2 Finbar will be ready to deliver a top class performance for the Omagh audience at Strule Arts Centre on Saturday, April 19.
Growing up on a farm Finbar began his musical education at the age of six, studying piano and theory of music with Maura Hourihane, a local teacher whose dedication and love of music left a permanent mark on his life. His formal studies in the vocal arts did not come until 1984 at the Cork School of Music where he studied singing with Robert Beare, theory of music with George Dunne and piano with Angel Climent.
Having won all of the major singing awards at Feis Ceoil, Dublin he began his solo career in 1990 with the release of his first best-selling album, Because, produced by Phil Coulter. He subsequently continued his music studies with Ernst Haefligger in Munich and internationally acclaimed soprano Ileana Cotrubas. However, the greatest influence on his vocal technique and musical confidence has been that of Dr Veronica Dunne in Dublin.
Finbar Wright's career already spans a dazzling spectrum of achievement everything from singing the title role in Mozart's Clemenza De Tito at Dublin's National Concert Hall, to bringing 5,000 people to their feet at the legendary Chicago Theatre in a concert of popular song.
This exceptional tenor has gone on to record six solo albums and a further six albums with the world famous Irish Tenors who have enjoyed phenomenal success all around the world, dominating the American charts for the past five years.
Finbar has emerged as one of Ireland's great romantic singers. He has hosted his own highly rated television series for RTE and undertaken major concert tours of Canada, USA and Australia.
He has performed at many historical world events including singing at Pope John Paul II's legendary first Papal Mass at the Phoenix Park, Dublin, in 1979; the State Dinner in honour of President Bill Clinton at Dublin Castle in 1995; and he performed live for Good Morning America during its coverage of President Reagan's funeral on Washington's Capitol Hill. Finbar has shared the stage too with such music legends as Monserrat Caballé, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and rock 'n' roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis.
