STAFF at JMG Systems Ltd in Omagh are fearing the worst this week, after it was reported that the company is seeking to make voluntary redundancies of between ten and 15 people.
In a recent letter to employees the electrical components firm cited a downturn in the market for the move.
Speaking to the Ulster Herald yesterday, operations manager at JMG Systems, Michael McCaul said that the majority of the 68 workers should be safe. He could not say, however, how many would lose their jobs.
"At the minute we're in the middle of reorganising the business," he said. "We are very much linked into the quarrying industry... and we are being forced to take this necessary action in order to realign for the year ahead."
Auto Electrical Specialists since 1976, JMG Systems Ltd have been designing and manufacturing engine control panels, wiring harnesses and remote control systems since 1984. The company currently employs 68 people.
Mr McCaul continued, "We had been looking for voluntary redundancies but so far nobody has taken us up on it. Now it's just a matter of going through the redundancy process, unfortunately.
"We are still committed to maintaining the remaining jobs," he added.
