Castlederg charity thank public for fund raising

THE Castlederg branch of Cancer Research NI raised a staggering £42,000 in 2006. A cheque for the proceeds from their past year's activities has been presented to Mrs Glenda Milligan who is a Community Fundraiser.

Milton Porter who is the secretary of the Castlederg branch has thanked the local community for their support. He said, "This figure is a tribute to the hard work and support from the people of Castlederg and District and the committee are deeply indebted to each and everyone concerned. It is the people of the area deserve the credit for this. If they did not give us the support we wouldn't raise these funds. The praise must go to the people of Castlederg and surrounding area. They are very generous. "

Last year the charity collected £36,500. Mr Porter added,"The sums raised here are absolutely overwhelming. This year is special in that we are celebrating 40 years since our foundation. It is wonderful ."

The money all goes towards cancer research in Belfast City and other hospitals. The Castlederg group are currently carrying out the annual 'House to House.' Next month a sale will be held in the Bridgetown Hall in Castlederg followed by another sale in Aghyaran.

The secretary of the Castlederg branch continued, "There will be all sorts of items on sale again kindly donated by the public.

"These sales are well known and when we go to Belfast people can hardly believe they can lift between £6-8,000. Also during the year we organise dances, quizzes and other social evenings. Without the community kindness none of this would not be possible."
