Miracle kittens survive against the odds

BY MARK MCKELVEY

m.mckelvey@ulsterherald.com

Miraculously five abandoned kittens escaped near certain death thanks to the eagle eyes of Omagh Waste workers on Monday.

While emptying a skip that had been collected in Enniskillen at the waste centre at Omagh's Gortrush Industrial Estate, staff immediately stopped the dumping process when they noticed five live kittens being tossed out amongst the heavy rubbish.

Thankfully, all of the kittens are safe and well, unbelievably avoiding injury. Staff then contacted Omagh based animal sanctuary, Grove hill to come and provide these forsaken kittens with shelter.

Lynda Hill who runs both Grove hill and Canine Care spoke of her utter disgust at the way someone could treat innocent five week old animals.

"It is a miracle that known of these kittens were killed or injured as there was a lot of heavy material in the skip," said Lynda. "They are all reasonably healthy. They are not wild kittens and have obviously had human contact, so someone has purposely put them in the skip.

"We are now looking for a good home for this Kittens who have defeated the odds to stay alive.

"This is a fine example of someone not having their cat neutered. This has been the worst year ever for homeless cats which is a widespread problem. We can only do so much as we are only touching the tip of the iceberg, neutering is needed to get to the root of the problem."

Lynda appealed for cat owners to visit their vet and avail of the cat protection scheme that offers a neutering service for only £5, saving a lot of unnecessary animal cruelty in the future.

If you are interested in adopting any of these miracle kittens call Lynda on 02882250058.
