MLA demands tourism promotion spend for Tyrone after omission

The omission of any mention of Tyrone tourism attractions from a major advertising campaign has been taken up by Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Claire McGill.

Following the exclusive report in the UH, she has called upon DETI Minister Nigel Dodds to detail the spend by the NI Tourist Board, in terms of advertising, on each The statutory agency charged with promoting tourism here completely omitted any mention of attractions in County Tyrone when it launched an expensive advertising campaign in Dublin- based papers a fortnight ago as part of a major drive to attract visitors to the six counties.

Ms McGill said, "Tyrone has as many, if not more, worthwhile tourist attractions than any other county in Ireland never mind the six counties. For the NI Tourist Board to omit mention of even one attraction in the county in this advertising offensive in Dublin-based newspapers has angered many local people who work day in, day out to promote local visitor attractions which are so important to the vibrancy of the local economy.

"There is a widespread perception in Tyrone that we don't get a fair share of the cake in terms of the NI Tourist Boards resources and investment," the West Tyrone MLA noted, "and on foot of what has now happened, I have asked Nigel Dodds to detail what the statutory agency has spend, in terms of advertising, in Tyrone, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, Antrim, and Armagh in the last year.
