COUNCILLOR Pat McDonnell has welcomed the announcement from DRD Roads Service that the road safety measures promised for St Joseph's PS, Drumquin, will be provided within twelve weeks.
The scheme to be implemented is under the 'Safer Routes to School' programme and is intended to provide extra protection to pupils as they arrive at or depart from school.
Councillor McDonnell, who is a member of the Board of Governors for St Joseph's, has been involved in lobbyimg for these measures for some time. He commented:
"While I welcome the announcement, I am somewhat disappointed at the delay - I had hoped that the new scheme would be up and running for the new school term. It now seems that it will be erected and commissioned within twelve weeks.
"St Joseph's is situated on the very busy Omagh to Castlederg road and the constant traffic has made accessing the school dificult and dangerous down the years.", said Cllr McDonnell
